FOUR KENTS

21 & Over | Review

I had extremely low expectations considering it’s the directorial debut of Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, who both wrote ‘The Hangover’ (funny!) and ‘The Change-Up’ (terribly un-funny). Yes, there’s crude humor, gross humor, shock value, coarse language, and nudity. But they managed to make all of this funny and pay off, unlike other comedies that end up being terrible (cough cough ‘The Watch’). The leads are all likable, which is the film’s winning factor. Justin Chon is good but it’s Skyler Astin and Miles Teller who impressed me the most; the two have great chemistry. Yes, the movie is about partying and drunken debauchery but there’s a sliver of emotion, humanity, and heart in it. You end up caring about the three leads. It’s about lost friendships and learning how to pick yourself back up and change your life for the better.

Three out of four Kent's.
