The Incredible Burt Wonderstone | Review
This is a movie about magicians but the plot is less than magical. It’s a simple (and predicable) story of an egotistical magician Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) who learns the gift of friendship and humility. Supporting cast includes Olivia Wilde as Carell’s love interest, Steve Buscemi as Wonderstone’s act partner Anton Marvelton, and Jim Carrey as the street magician Steve Gray. Carrey has his funniest role in years and steals the movie with his hilarious character based on real life street magicians like David Blaine. The film does have some misfires in the joke department but for the most part this is a simple and enjoyable act. It favors laughs over character development, which it clearly lacks. But this is the movie I expected it to be, no more, no less. Also, the film ends on a high note.
