A Short Reunion at My Second Home
When I went to Orlando three weeks ago it was the first time I’d been back since my program ended. I made sure to visit my old workplace so I can see my old co-workers. Unfortunately I didn’t see many that I knew, but at least I got to see some of them again.
Pictured, from left to right after me, are: Mario, my supervisor; Geralda, my fellow cast member; and Jan, my manager. Idk who the last lady is, she just joined our photo lol.
The job I was assigned to wasn’t my first choice - in fact, it was my last. But I learned you should just make the best out of whatever you’re given. I learned to do my job well, to have fun doing it, and I was able to befriend people I wouldn’t have normally associated myself with: the elderly, Haitian immigrants, South American immigrants, etc.
Many guests, as well as fellow Disney cast members, look down on us or think very lowly of us. And I admit, starting out, I was pretty embarrassed. But I had time to learn there’s nothing to be embarrassed about, especially since my fellow cast members did the same job to survive or feed their families. There’s no shame in that. It was a humbling experience and I have to thank Disney for allowing me the opportunity ❤️
